Wrapping up the blog/Cowboys season predictions

After blogging about the Cowboys for endless weeks, I have concluded this will be my final blog and during this blog I will go over my predictions for the Cowboys as well as other predictions for their season. For weeks, I have been putting my input on several different aspects of the Cowboys’ offense, their coaching staff, and their defense for this upcoming season and have analyzed their performances from the last few seasons in order to accurately guess the stats for the Cowboys upcoming season. The Dallas Cowboys this season will win the Super Bowl and follow these expectations.

The Dallas Cowboys on the season will go 11-6. With the addition of the extra game this year, the Cowboys will win that extra game and move onto first place in the NFC East and be the #3 seed in the NFC Playoffs. The Cowboys have the second easiest schedule in the league for the 2021 season, the only team to have an easier schedule is the Philadelphia Eagles who have the easiest schedule in the league. As for their road games, the Cowboys play the 10th toughest road schedule and must play at Tampa Bay and Kansas City; the two Super Bowl opponents from last year. Although Dallas plays a tough road schedule, The Cowboys will be back to full throttle next year with Dak healthy again and our offensive line becoming healthy again as well.

The Dallas Cowboys will win the NFC East. I am VERY VERY VERY confident that this prediction will come 100% true. The Cowboys have not won the NFC East since 2018 and every year a new NFC East team defends the crown. The curse will strike the Washington Football team and they will end up going in 2nd place this upcoming season in the NFC East and the Giants and Eagles will be abysmal just like last season since both franchises seem to be in a state of a “rebuild era”. Like I said in the paragraph before as well, the Cowboys will clinch the #3 seed in the NFC Playoffs and have a home game to host.

Dak Prescott wins AP Comeback Player of the year. Given the strength of schedule, status on how great Dak is doing since his ankle surgery, and the return of an electric offense, this should be a no brainer. Dak Prescott was on pace to shatter records last season in yards thrown but his injury prevented him to do so. With the return of a healthy and stout offensive line as well, Dak Prescott will be able to have all the time in the pocket necessary to provide the Cowboys with maximum potential for their dangerous offense.

In conclusion, I have really enjoyed writing these blogs and it has even helped me sharpen up on my writing skills and knowledge on the Dallas Cowboys. As an avid fan of the Cowboys, I want to thank everyone who has helped me pursue my goal in writing about the Cowboys such as Cary Sims, Jeff Sims, Dylan Sims, Jordan Sims, Austin Sims, Nick Lasam, Joseph Kuppich, Carson Miller, Joel Stuckey, Adonis Rose, Tony Diservio, and most importantly Dr. Gary Schirr for helping me create the idea of this blog. Thank you, viewers, for always reading my blog and as always GO COWBOYS!!!!!

How the Cowboys will win the NFC East

The Dallas Cowboys will be looking to recapture the NFC East crown after failing to do so last year and failing to win it since 2018. The Dallas Cowboys finished the season 6-10 and 3rd in the NFC East. The Cowboys had a slim chance in the last game of the season vs the Giants where they needed to beat them, and the Football team needed to lose to the Eagles for the cowboys to advance to the playoffs but failed to do so. No team has won the NFC East crown back to back years since 2004 when the Philadelphia Eagles won it multiple times in a row the years before 2004.  The Cowboys are expecting to win the NFC East this season and here is how they can:

Beat the Football Team twice. Alright hear me out. This HAS to most likely happen to win the NFC East crown. The Eagles and Giants are looking like they are going be in more of a rebuilding process this season and the Football Team and the Cowboys look like they are poised for success. The Football Team has recently signed quarterback QB Ryan Fitzpatrick who played well in Miami last year and will be built around a much better offensive scheme this year as well. Dallas must focus on winning these two games against the Football Team because likely this series will come down to the last game of the year and the winner will most likely go to the playoffs and the loser will get to watch them from the couch. There is a chance that the Cowboys will just be the outright winner and not even need to beat the Football Team in the final outing between the two, but history has seemed to prove otherwise over the past several years.

Win at least 5/6 of division games. In order to win in our division, the Cowboys need to come out on top with the most wins in the division. As said in the last paragraph, we have to beat the Football Team twice so it would be ok to slip up and lose one against the Eagles or Giants but the Cowboys should finish with an undefeated divisional schedule given the lesser of talent this season from the NFC East.

Starters must stay healthy. This is a given but look at what happened to our season last year. Multiple key offensive and defensive injuries spoiled the Cowboys season last year and that can either be blamed on luck or lack of practice and workout time due to Covid-19. New strength and conditioning coaches along with new coaching staff will help these Cowboys stay up to shape and keep healthy.

Cowboys Ofennsive Goals for upcoming season

The Dallas Cowboys this season are expecting most of their offensive starters back on offense in the upcoming season and all is looking well for the offensive firepower. With Dak expecting to make a full comeback this season and the offensive line being healthy again, Dallas is expecting to have a full comeback season on offense and take over the league in scoring. With Amari Coopers excellent route running capability, Michael Gallups sensational ability to catch the deep ball, and Ceedee Lambs hands, we can expect the most of this electric offense. But for this offense to be the best it can be this upcoming season; we can expect the cowboys to be on top of these stats listed below.

Amari Cooper, Ceede Lamb, and Michael Gallup each record over 1000 yards each. I know this state seems fairly extreme and almost impossible, but it can DEFINETLY be done. Before Dak Prescotts injury in week 5, Ceedee Lamb and Amari Cooper were well ready to exceed over 1000 yards and Michael Gallup was not too far behind the stat line to reach over 1000 before disaster struck. Overall, Amari Cooper did finish with over 1000 yards on the season and Lamb and Gallup were just short of a thousand having 935 yards for Lamb and 843 yards for Gallup. Also, the group tallied 15 totals touchdowns and 5 touchdowns each which were not exactly the best numbers given the circumstances. In order to capitalize on a strong and efficient offense, the trio needs to be able to each record 8 or plus touchdowns each and should easily have 1000 plus yards when the season ends.

The offensive line must stay healthy. This was a major factor that contributed to the downfall of the Dallas Cowboys last season and injuries constantly plagued the starting o-line. Losing Lael Collins to a hip surgery before the season started, Tyron Smith to a neck injury in week 2, and Zach Collins to a lingering calf injury in week 10 are all expected to make full recoveries for the upcoming season and that is extremely important. The Dallas Cowboys offensive line when completely healthy in 2019 gave Elliot 4.8 yards a carry and only allowed 23 sacks all season long (League’s 2nd best). Fast forward to the year 2020 with the Cowboys depleted offensive line, the squad averaged 4.2 yards per rush and an abysmal 44 sacks allowed all season long (League’s 7th worst). Expect the offensive line to make a full comeback this season.

Dalton Schultz and possibly Kyle Pitts. Dallas lost Blake Jarwin this season after he came down with a knee injury and the rest was all Dalton Schultz. In the absence of Jarwin, Schultz accumulated 63 receptions, 615 receiving yards, and 4 touchdowns to cap off his 2020 season. Also, if Kyle Pitts manages to fall into the second round, the stellar tight end from Florida University could make his way to Dallas and be a part of a new lethal tight end duo.

With the 10th pick, The Dallas Cowboys select…

That question will be answered April 29th in downtown Cleveland where all NFL teams front offices will meet again in Cleveland and battle it out for the best college football players from the previous year and so on. For most Cowboys fans, the answer to this pick is either drafting a cornerback or adding more talent to our offensive line. With the draft coming up very soon and many college teams having their pro day, the cowboys will most likely be in attendance for these upcoming players.

Patrick Surtain II. This is the Dallas Cowboys most likely best option when the 10th pick rolls around. A junior who is coming off a stellar year at the university of Alabama played lights out and never missed a game for the Crimson Tide. Also, he posted the fastest current cornerback 40-yard dash time which is posted at an unofficial time of 4.42. The Cowboys have also had recent success in drafting cornerbacks from Alabama. In round 2 of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Cowboys selected Trevon Diggs with the 51st pick who also excelled with the Crimson Tide. If the Cowboys drafted Surtain with the 10th overall pick and keep Trevon Diggs around, the duo could prove to be just as deadly as they were in Tuscaloosa.

Caleb Farley. The standout cornerback from Virginia Tech who started his career as a wide receiver to being the best cornerback in the ACC the 2019 college football season. In 2019, Farley had an incredible college football season and racked up 20 tackles, 4 interceptions, and one pick six. Only problem? Farley opted out not to play the 2020 college football season due to not wanting to get sick during the Coronavirus and to avoid injury for the upcoming year. We know Farley was a standout in college, but by taking him out a season does his value still stand as tall as it did in 2019? The Cowboys could possibly take Farley with the 10th pick here but due to uncertainty from not playing the previous college football season, Jerry and crew will have to do more research before the draft to find out how truly great he is.

Jay Tufele. Although this pick will likely not happen with the Cowboys in the first round, consider Tufele to be highly sought after when the Cowboys come back around in the second. The defensive tackle from USC California, like Caleb Farley, missed the 2020 college football season due to the pandemic and had a stellar season in 2019. Jay Tufele in his 2019 campaign amounted to 41 total tackles, 21 solo tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks on the year. Will a stellar career at USC be enough to land him in Big D?

Dallas Cowboys toughest opponents for the 2021 season

The Dallas Cowboys opponents for the upcoming season have been selected and set and this years schedule is tougher than most of their schedules in recent history. The Cowboys who finished in 3rd place in the NFC East last year, are scheduled to play now 17 games this year with the extra game being added to NFL teams schedules starting next year. Although the NFL analysts report that the Dallas Cowboys have the easiest home schedule in the NFL this upcoming season, their road schedule is a completely different story. These are the Dallas Cowboys toughest opponents (not ranked in specific order).

Arizona Cardinals. Kyler Murray is coming off an excellent second year and showed no signs of the signature NFL sophomore slump. Coming off of an 8-8 record, The Cardinals have regrouped this off-season and added valuable additions to their offense and defense. With the addition of JJ Watt on defense and AJ Green on offense, their expected to play at a much higher level than last year. Not to mention the Cardinals blew out the Cowboys last season at home 38-10 so expect the Cowboys to be ready to take this game personally.

Kansas City Chiefs. Oh boy do the Cowboys have their hands full with this one. Playing at Arrowhead Stadium with most likely fans making a comeback next year, this game will be very loud and physical. Coming off of two back-to-back Superbowl appearances, the chiefs are destined to be on pace to make it three Superbowl appearances in a row. Want to know the last team to do that? The Dallas Cowboys in the 90’s. In the battle between two of the NFLs top paid quarterbacks, the matchup between these two top NFL franchises is sure to be quite the game.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Super Bowl Champs and Tom Brady vs Americas Team and Dak Prescott. A matchup that will absolutely provide great viewer ratings and explosive offense on both sides of the field, this is a game for all NFL fans to watch out for. Dak Prescott whose season was ultimately cut short from injury and coming off a brand-new extensive contract will want to ultimately show he is a top quarterback in the NFL and beating Tampa Tom in his own stadium would put the Cowboys in the NFL spotlight.

New England Patriots. For the first time ever, the NFL will let teams play a 17th game against an opponent in the opposite conference. The Cowboys will play the AFC East and face the Patriots in Foxborough. I have listed this game as one of our toughest games because the Cowboys haven’t beaten the Patriots since December 5th, 1996! To do the math for you it has been a long 25 years since the Cowboys have beat the Patriots and will be looking to snap that streak this year in cold New England.

Top Free Agents to sign this offseason

The Dallas Cowboys after recently signing their franchise quarterback in Dak Prescott have lots of options this offseason on what to do with their remaining cap space. The main focus according to Jerry Jones and company is that the Dallas Cowboys want to go back to having a stout, and explosive defense while also maintaining a strong and healthy offensive line. With exactly $18,268,601 remaining in available cap space for the upcoming season, these are the top free agents that the Dallas Cowboys should sign this offseason.

Shaq Barret. Barret has been active in the NFL since 2015 and has been a threat at the linebacker position since beginning his career in Denver. Now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Shaq Barret could be a valuable option for the Cowboys. During the 2020 season with the Bucs, Shaq tallied up 57 total tackles, 14 assisted tackles, and 8 sacks. With the remaining 18 plus million in cap space the Cowboys could very likely sign Shaq Barret for a short-term deal worth 5-6 million since his previous contracts have linked to be nearly the same. But with the Buccaneers likely not signing Barret back because they used their franchise tag on Chris Godwin, Barret is expected to make noise in the free agency market and the Cowboys would be more than willing to sign him to a reasonable contract.

Anthony Harris. Although he started all of last season and did not record a single interception, Harris still tallied up a career high 104 tackles and started every game. Minnesota has expressed that they might not bring him back and the Cleveland Browns have expressed interest but Harris could be a good pickup for the Cowboys. Dallas over the last few years have dreaded not having a valuable safety. Donovan Wilson filled the role very well last season even though that is not his designated role and Harris could provide lots of coverage in the backfield and would not cost the Dallas Cowboys a lot of money. The Cowboys have shown interest in this position and if it is not filled after the draft this April then expect the Dallas Cowboys to show interest in Harris.

Jadeveon Clowney. This one is tricky for the Dallas Cowboys because a lot of fans and players believe that Clowney is simply a bust. When Clowney played for the Titans last year he suffered a lingering knee injury that caused him to only partake in 8 out of the 16 regular season games they played last season. The Cowboys could use Clowneys explosiveness on the D-Line and if his knee does get better than it is a for sure sign for the Cowboys since they have needed to fill the D-Line position as well.

The Dallas Cowboys have a focus on defense this off season and with the offense coming back to full force, the defense will have to be stout and efficient.

The Top 5 Reasons Dak will win the Super Bowl with the Cowboys

This week The Dallas Cowboys finally found their franchise quarterback and all finally seems well in Dallas. With the franchise deadline approaching on March 9th, Dak Prescott finally got the call from Jerry Jones on the night of March 8th to sign him to a mega million contract deal. Dak Prescott’s deal consists of a whopping 160-million-dollar contract for 4 years (126 million guaranteed). Dak will reportedly make 75 million his first year in the contract which is the most by any player in their first year of their contract in NFL history. With Dak back in the saddle again in Dallas, here are the top 5 reasons why Dak will win Dallas a super-bowl this year.

1)  Dak Prescott is a winner. When Dak Prescott was drafted in the fourth round in 2016, not a lot of people expected a lot to come out of him. After Tony Romo hurt his back in the preseason in 2016, it was up to Dak and company who thrived and finished with a 13-3 record which was the best in the NFC then. Daks overall record with the Cowboys is a modest 42-27 and only expected to win more games from here on out.

2) Dak has an offense loaded with talent. Its no question that the Dallas Cowboys have one of the scariest receiving cores in the NFL with Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and the explosive second year veteran CeeDee Lamb who all had a decent year last year despite Dak being on injured reserve. With all receivers coming back and Dak back at full health, this offense is guaranteed to be explosive.

3)  Dak Prescott has a stellar QBR rating. Dak Prescott has been very efficient in the pocket when he is under center. Dak has a stellar quarterback rating of 97.3 over his 5 year tenure in the NFL and is only expected to grow after watching what Dak provided for the Cowboys in his few games in the 2020 season. Before his injury, Dak in only 5 games had 1856 passing yards (the most at the time before he got injured), 9 touchdowns, and a QBR of 99.6. Safe to say with everyone coming back on offense and the offensive line back to full health, Dak could possibly break records this upcoming year.

4) Dak Prescott is a leader. After his injury in week 5 of the 2020 NFL season, the cowboys looked lost and were going in no direction. Many players pleaded that Prescott’s presence in the locker room had helped them win games all season and kept other players from acting out. Daks presence in the locker room is obviously felt by the players and has shown that he can put this team on his shoulders if needed to. Dak is a winner, leader, and a role model tom these players and having him back will help boost team morale and winning percentage hopefully as well.

5) Dak is mobile. Now this one will be interesting to see after his ankle surgery from his gruesome ankle injury earlier in the season. Dak now has 1314 rushing yards and 24 rushing touchdowns in his 5 year tenure. But coming from a season ending injury, Daks choice in running with the ball might be very limited from here on out.

Is it time to pay Dak?

Without a doubt the biggest discussion in Dallas this off-season is what is going on in the front office with Jerry and Dak. Will a deal ever be made? This problem stems all the way back from last year as well. Before the beginning of the 2020 NFL season, Dak Prescott was asking for more than forty-five million a year for 5 years from the Cowboys which would have made him the highest paid quarterback in NFL history. The deal was never made, and Jerry and company decided to franchise tag Dak for a little more than thirty million. After a depressing season ending injury to Dak Prescott early into the season, it is hard to speculate what such a catastrophic injury will due to his long-term success and his hopes for a forty million plus contract. If the Cowboys and Dak do not sign a long-term deal before March 9th, then the Cowboys either have to sign Dak to a franchise tag or let him walk in free agency.

If Dak walks in free agency, then the quarterback position is left wide open and this is where everything for the Cowboys gets quite interesting. A few quarterbacks this off-season have pleaded trades to other teams such as Deshaun Watson and most importantly, Russel Wilson. I say Russel Wilson most importantly because there is lots of talk and rumors of a possible blockbuster trade between the Cowboys and the Seahawks. The Cowboys and Jerry Jones have openly showed interest in Russel Wilson in the past and if a deal is not done with Dak, there is a high chance that Russel comes to Big D. This trade most likely will not be as easy for Dallas to make because if Seattle trades away Russ this means they must guarantee Dak a forty million plus contract since the Cowboys would not have to pay nearly as much for Russel. Dallas will most likely have to offer Seattle their first-round draft pick which they currently have at #10 on the board, and possibly the next years first round draft pick as well. Although these possibilities are theoretical, don’t be surprised if this blockbuster trade shakes up this NFL offseason.

Another possibility, although highly unlikely, is that if the deal between Dak and Dallas does not happen and we do not trade for Russel Wilson then we could resign our trusty backup from last year Andy Dalton who showed sparks of success in his tenure in Dallas this year after Daks season ending injury. If Dallas decides to take this route than the Cowboys will have lots of cap space and could build back their stout offensive line and defense. Although Andy Dalton is nearing the end of his career, bringing him back for one more shot with a stout offense and defense would be interesting to see given our strength of schedule this upcoming season.

With these options in play, the quarterback situation in Dallas only gets more and more interesting with the March 9th deadline approaching.

How to get back to Dallas “Doomsday Defense”

In the 1970s and 80s, The Dallas Cowboys were classified as having the best defense in the NFL and was widely known for being called “Doomsday Defense” because opposing coaches and players said it would take a doomsday for someone to be able to run through that defense. Now the year is 2021 and The Dallas Cowboys defense which was notorious for how good it was is back in the day is now been one of the worst over the past several years. Last season the Cowboys had historically their worst defense yet and allowed more than 473 points… the most ever allowed in franchise history. They also significantly struggled against the rushing attack and averaged five yards per carry (yes you are reading that stat correctly) ranking their defense 30th in the league last year. Safe to say, their defense last year cannot possibly get any worse with the firing of Mike Nolan and the beginning of the Dan Quinn era. A lot of questions this offseason though arises on who to draft and what to do in free agency and the cowboys have plenty of options.

To start the offseason on a good note, the Dallas Cowboys now hold the 3rd highest left-over cap stock from last year which surfaces to be right around twenty-five million. The 2021 cap space for the cowboys given this offseason will be a bit higher than in the past since the NFL is now adding an extra game to the season. Right now, the Cowboys are projected to have a little over 210 million in cap space for the upcoming season which allows Dallas to potentially hire a lot of new faces on this defense. Lets dive into the obvious needs for the defense.

The cornerback position has been the most obvious and called for aspect on this defense. With a banged up secondary for what felt like an eternity all of last season, Cowboys fans and players know how undervalued this position truly is. The cowboys have second year veteran Trevon Diggs from Alabama who had a promising year before injuring himself in the middle of the season, they are in dire need of a healthy cornerback who brings back the explosive mindset of a defense like Deion Sanders once did for the cowboys. Caleb Farley from Virginia Tech has had an excellent season and could prove to be the Cowboys next cornerback with their top ten pick in the draft.

The free safety position and defensive tackle are gaps that need to be filled as well. The cowboys have majorly struggled at the free safety position this year and Donavan Wilson did an excellent job this year covering the free safety position even though he is a true strong safety. As for defensive tackle, it seems like every year the Cowboys have this one figured out and lose it to an injury. These defensive weaknesses should hopefully be strong suites next season given how much cap space the Cowboys have and the amount of potential their defensive coach provides.

#GoCowboys #Cowboysnation #Howaboutthemcowboys #Dallas #Cowboys #MikeMcCarthy

Have no fear, Mccarthy is here!

In January of 2019, after the Dallas Cowboys had finally parted ways with long time mediocre coach Jason Garret, fans and Dallas Cowboys critics from all over debated on who should coach this illustrious multibillion-dollar franchise and team filled with talent. The knock was answered a few short months later when the Green Bay Packers ex-coach Mike McCarthy was named head coach and was going to bring his super bowl caliber coaching to start another dynasty in Dallas. Mike McCarthy used to be the head coach for the Packers back in 2011 when Aaron Rodgers and the Packers solid defense won them the Superbowl. Since then Mikes coaching record has been rather modest where he stands at a 68-43 record. Although with that being said, Mike is potentially the perfect fit for Dallas with his coaching schemes and methods. Being a more defensively minded coach, McCarthy should have no problem with new defensive coordinator Dan Quinn to recruit some very defensive minded free agents and draftees. Adding to McCarthy’s defensive mechanisms, he spent all the 2018 season as bystander trying to get back into the game, nonetheless a coach. While Mike McCarthy spent the season watching, he knew that he might not get another chance at coaching again so he “locked” himself into his barn that he owns daily and would study the NFL most common coaching and current trends. Just like that, Jerry Jones called him and welcomed him into the Cowboys organization as the next head coach and the ninth of the Dallas Cowboys franchise.

Well, after a season with Mike McCarthy at the helm there is a lot to take away from his first year and a lot of things that could have gone differently. To start off, this team was plagued with injuries from the beginning and Mike never really had a chance to develop the team unto its true potential do to the constant starting line up changes weekly. Not to mention, Mike McCarthy was coming off a year with no coaching experience from the earlier year and a maligned defense as well that ranked 32nd in giving away rushing yards by the end of the 2020-21 season. Mike McCarthy is known for being personable with his players and staff as well, something Jason Garret did not express as much as. Before week 12 of the NFL regular season, The Dallas Cowboys were on a four-game losing streak and were on the brink of being eliminated from the playoffs. Mike McCarthy explained to his team that they needed to “smash” their demons and wrote on the watermelons everything that the Dallas Cowboys were struggling with during the season. Needless to say, McCarthy and staff said they smashed over two dozen watermelons and provided a much-needed spark of momentum and a reminder that football can be hard and fun. They ended up beating the Minnesota Vikings that week and became one of the biggest wins of the season. Mike McCarthy is very capable of coaching this team and is fixing the holes in this football team that were very clear last season. With the offseason already on the way and a newer coaching staff, the Dallas Cowboys will have to find something to smash when they are hopefully on a winning streak to start Mikes second season in Dallas
